Lighting of the Diamond Jubilee Beacon

Despite all attempts by the weather to put a damper on people enjoying themselves we had the lighting of the official Surrey Heath Jubilee Beacon in Frimley Green Recreation Ground. Many hundreds of residents from Mytchett, Frimley Green, Deepcut and Frimley attended the lighting. At 9.10pm people from the three Villages and Frimley started to gather on the Green in Frimley Green, at 9.45pm they were led by Councillor Bruce Mansell, the SHBC Mayor and Tony Moore, head of the Carnival Committee, to the Recreation Ground where the lighting of the Jubilee Beacon took place. Members of the Society’s committee helped out as stewards making sure that people were able to move from the Green to the Recreation Ground in a safe manner.

John Phillips, the former County Councillor for the three villages prepared the beacon and the four rockets representing the three villages and Frimley. At 10.26pm the Mayor lit the Beacon, once that was done John Phillips lit the four rockets. Due to the overcast and murky sky it was difficult to see the neigbouring beacons but as can be seen from the photos below our beacon was pretty impressive.
